Mother’s Day Is Not A Hallmark Holiday

This year I celebrated my second Mother’s Day and I have to admit, it takes on entirely new meaning when you become a Mom. Not only do I enjoy spending the day with my own daughter, but I love seeing all the wonderful moms in my life receive a little extra love and attention. I have a special place in my heart for the moms celebrating for the first time; it is such a special day! Breakfast in bed? Check. Homemade cards? Check. Brunch? Check.

As for me, I spent a lovely day with my daughter and husband at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens basking in the sunlight! The 52-acre garden was the perfect spot to let our new walker roam free and even get a few grass stains! 🙂

She is officially walking and loving every minute of her newfound freedom. Sunglasses were a MUST on this beautiful day!

mothersday4I am thankful to have captured these stunning pink and red beauties because tulip season is almost over! I visited the gardens last month when the tulips were in full bloom and it was a little sad to see the majority of them wilted a month later. Until next year…

My Mom told me a story the other day about when my siblings and I were little, all she wanted for Mother’s Day was a few peaceful hours to plant her flower garden. She was Mom to three young kids and I can only assume life was pretty hectic. But now that we have all grown, she has all the free time she needs. Moral of the story, It’s hard to know and even harder to appreciate being in the good old days, but now is the time to create the memories!

From the looks of my social media feeds, I think it’s safe to assume that Mother’s Day is not a Hallmark holiday, but a truly special day to show our appreciate for mom.

How did you celebrate your Mother’s Day?
