Can Do Duck The Musical Comes to NYC

I recently had the opportunity to preview the off-broadway children’s show Can Do Duck: The Musical and it was adorable, creative, and thoroughly entertaining for my two-year-old. The musical is based on the successful children’s book series, The Can Do Duck.

I was a bit apprehensive about bringing my daughter to a 1-hour show where she would need to be relatively quiet and stay in her seat. I snapped the picture above partway through the show because I couldn’t believe how entranced she was – it was a success!

The musical, which takes place at The Lynn Redgrave Theater {also known as the Culture Project} is the perfect size space for entertaining young children – the show felt intimate and the action was just close enough to keep her attention. The adorable duck costumes, catchy tunes, and the pronounced animation of the actors certainly helped as well.

My daughter was a bit young to understand the central message of the play, but The Can Do Duck’s positivity was felt from start to finish. The musical {and books} presented a powerful and important message to kids in a very fun and entertaining way – “I say I can. I make a plan. I get right to it. And then I do it!” – it doesn’t get much cuter than that.

I always tell my husband that we need to take advantage of living in New York City, with all the fantastic shows, museums, and events, we really don’t get out enough. After watching the musical with my daughter this past weekend and seeing how much she loved it, I am excited to introduce her to even more.

After the play was over she had the opportunity to meet some of the actors and made a b-line for Mama Duck. She was completely fascinated with her feathers, which did not surprise me in the least, the child does love her fashion. The cast, along with the creator and director Arielle Sosland were so gracious and sweet with all the little kids, we actually had to peel my daughter away from poor Mama Duck.

If you are looking for an entertaining and heart-warming show for the entire family to enjoy, go see Can Do Duck: The Musical.

I am the mother of one of the “Ducklings” in the play. I can remember when my children were little, taking them to shows and hoping that they would resonate in some way. The photo of your daughter during the play is proof that she was indeed absorbing something! Continued exposure to all things cultural will surely give your entire family memories to last a lifetime…enjoy every precious moment!
