I wrote a post, The Truth About Potty Training and Why it’s Hard, recently and promised to follow up with some of my favorite potty training gear. I was so fortunate to receive several potty training items from team Baby Bjorn and sample Pee-Kaboo’s potty training stickers, however, all thoughts and opinions regarding the products are mine. Let’s get down to it!
Potty Training Gear: What You Need
This product has been invaluable to my daughter’s potty training success, as she is far to small to use an adult-sized toilet comfortably. Living in NYC unfortunately requires the use of public restrooms when we are outside of the apartment – this small seat rests (and hooks in place) directly on top of the adult seat, making it cleaner and size appropriate for a toddler. I kid you not, I carry this toilet seat everywhere I go – toilet seats are the new black!
The Potty Chair functions as a mini, stand-alone toilet. I purchased this toilet months before I actually started potty training my daughter – it’s lightweight, portable, easy to clean, and the small size makes it a great training toilet (a month into the process my daughter still prefers this seat over the normal toilet).
3. Step Stool
A step stool is an important piece of the potty training arsenal, unless you have a low toilet/sink and a tall toddler. As an adult, you don’t immediately realize how high a toilet sits off the ground, rendering it almost impossible for an average sized toddler to actually sit on a toilet. Secondly, washing hands after each use is important and most won’t be able to reach the sink without assistance (I still wash my daughter’s hands with her, but with the stool she can at least stand on her own).
4. Pee-Kaboo’s Reusable Potty Training Stickers
This creative product makes potty training fun for little ones. When placed on the bottom of a potty training chair, a decorative sticker is revealed after urine is released and then it magically disappears again. It’s such a smart idea for offering an incentive and I imagine it would be especially helpful with a boy during “target” practice. Each sticker lasts between four to six weeks and is made with nontoxic ink.
Additional products:
Flushable wipes
A Potette toilet (foldable/portable toilet)
Extra soft toilet paper
Stickers/stamps as a reward (we offered stickers/stamps starting around days 3/4 and only gave them out when my daughter requested it – she hardly asks anymore a month in)
Let me know of any products you love that I can add to the list!
Good luck,
Anna
