My daughter is turning two in a few short months and as a result, I’ve tried introducing more creative projects into our day.
I love the adorable book Where’s Boo? by Salina Yoon and figured it would be a great way to introduce my daughter to Halloween. In conjunction with reading the book, I decided we would create our very own Boo to really bring the book to life.
Supplies You’ll Need
- Construction paper/Cardstock (Black, white, pink, yellow)
- Pencil/pen
- Scissors
- Non-toxic glue stick
- Craft popsicle stick
- Silver/white marker or pen
- Black marker
How to Make Boo
Step 1. Sketch a little drawing of Boo to get a feel for his shape – he is actually very simple. Perfection is not the goal; this is supposed to be fun.
Step 2. Next, draw Boo‘s main body parts on black construction paper (his head, body, tail, and ears), leaving enough space to cut them out. Additionally, draw Boo‘s nose on the pink paper, small yellow triangles for his ears, and white circles for his eyes (draw the black details before cutting).
Note: Boo‘s head is shaped like a football, his ears are simple triangles and I just slowly sketched the rest! I drew Boo using a silver marker so it was easier to view – this is not necessary.
Step 3. Draw the details on Boo – his whiskers, nose, feet, and chest details. I used a silver pen, but any color that will show up on black paper will do.
Step 4. Cut out Boo‘s nose, eyes, and yellow triangles – glue in place before cutting the body/ears.
Step 5. Cut out Boo‘s completed body!
Step 6. Now comes the fun, allow your toddler or young child to piece Boo together using the glue stick.
Step 7. Once Boo is completed, you can glue a craft popsicle stick to his back for easy handling.
This project required about 15-20 minutes of prep and my daughter needed help gluing Boo together. At 20 months, this is to be expected.
If you have older children, the project works with more independence – allow older kids to create Boo from the sketch stage and kids a bit younger can take over once you’ve drawn the adorable cat.
